When combined with resources such as Media Servers and Gateways, My Multimedia Manager provides session control for the delivery of multimedia services between mixed endpoints.
My Multimedia Manager registers and keeps track of endpoint capabilities when managing sessions. It effectively separates the service logic from service delivery, while maintaining session state. For example, a subscriber might want to enable video ring-back tones when people call his mobile phone, but this feature has to be delivered selectively only to callers that can receive video; for all other callers, the subscriber might be interested in playing a customized or regular ring-back tone.
With My Multimedia Manager, service providers can offer services to a large customer pool because these services do not depend on device compatibility and do not necessarily require the latest technology from all participants to be enjoyed. This also creates attractive cross-selling opportunities for service providers promoting video capable handsets and data service bundles.
Examples of services using My Multimedia Manager include:
-
Video calling: Callers participate in video calls, irrespective of their endpoint devices. The application allows placing and receiving video calls between cellular (3G), PC and video-enabled POTS devices to extend the service provider’s reach to the widest possible market.
- Customized video ring back: Similar to a customized audio ring-back tone, this service allows subscribers to play video streams to incoming callers. Subscribers can create their own video streams and specify how the video should be displayed based on external factors such as caller ID, time of day, etc.
- Video during voice session: Subscribers can initiate a separate video session from a voice session; this application allows service providers to control and bill voice and video sessions separately. This is useful when charging a premium for video service.
